Hi guys, super stoked for my first big block. Wasn't sure on the best platform to run it on, so I decided a vesla was what I'd try out.
Love the way the Taylor big blocks flop a big car around like a rag doll, so I wanted to try 2wd instead of 4 and my baja would need to be extensively modified to handle it, so I kept it the way it is for now.
Started with the big block roller from Taylor as it comes with the mount to fit the big block and the layshaft also pre-installed.
Got the Taylor transmission housing to hold the power, but if anybody used this car with the gears as dry as these were no engine what have pushed for long. That's why most guys tear down a new rtr to check.
Got the housing installed back on no problem but the blackbone gears 25/51, I got from Taylor as per his suggestion don't have any backlash and worse bind terribly in about the same spot as the large gear makes a full turn, the rest of the turn it does roll freely.
Is there an indexing for the blackbone spur to holder? Pinion gear had two shims on it and I putbthem between Pinion and plate.
Any suggestions or experiences with this?

Yes the internal trans gears will fling off what ever luv you put on them. They are just as happy to run dry. As for the black bone gears. I remember mine being like that. It’ll wear in and clear up a few minutes into the first tank.

It’s a mirror image of mine. You’ll need aluminum control arms and uprites. Kraken plastic is garbage!! Kraken aluminum arms are very heavy though. But work.

Nice build!

Ah, thanks, that's good news. That was my first thought, but then I kept bothing me. They must have put silicon diff oil lightly on the tranny gears, it was all in-between the housing and chassis plate. I put a bit of my go-to grease...boat flex shaft grease...has a pump, so it goes on neat and as much or as little as you want. Has great anti fling adhesion and I just put enough to wet the teeth.
Still parts to intall before its first run, but I had to limit the total bill, frequency will add on more upgrades as they break. I'm not in it so I don't mind having carnage once and a while. No fun if it never breaks! Your not scared to break it, so less adrenaline

Worked till the wee hours of the morning without seeing the time go by! Feel a little zombie like today, still got a few things to do but it's almost ready to fire up, got the braces on, shock stops, and the heavy rear springs. Just need to make a hole for the kill switch light, jam everything into the receiver box, set end points, I have one rear vekta clipless pin set and two vekta side body pin sets coming from ddm. But clips or screws this thing can move, just was watching thunder rc ripping around with his vesla 46gt and his vekta e 12s. Of course everything he drives he calls a beast, but even the 46gt throws that vesla around effortlessly

Oh ya! Thanks, it's lookin good for a test real soon. Put the clip pins I had in the front two bolt holes that are covered by the front plate, put some super glue to hold in the kill bulb, using the same receiver battery I had in my vekta, a ddm 7000mah lipo. Only ever charged it once, ran three tanks in the vekta, it's getting topped off, was still at 66%, that same battery will fit the losi 5t also, even though I was given a 3500 lipo when I bought it, I doubt I'll ever run any two of them at the same time! With my crawlers I can run using just one hand, but these 5th scale need your full attention!
Went out with the bush hog just before and prepared a nice open space to keep the Taylor engine moving steady to make heat but also cool. It's almost a perfect day as if the stars and the planets aligned for me to get out with it. Rain expected all week end, so more wrenching to put on parts I got for three other cars to come, but still needing my box from ddm as it has many parts I need to get the 5t and baja ready. Hopefully there's going to be some more nice weather for a run with each of them!

OMG! That was different. I have great news, good news, ans bad news.
Great is I got out and ran for ??? 5-6 minutes,
I was expecting it to loud, from the videos I've seen, but that doesn't compare to being there. Let it run low for a minute, had to lightly hold throttle to keep it running, noticed it needs a fancy tool to adjust idle, looks like the tool for quadrajet gm carbs will fit, at idle I was thinking...ya, thats freekin loud! Hen, then I gas it some gas to move, was wondering if it would it revs so much higher than a tiny zenoah, but my ear drums started to vibrate in my head!!! Then I was just giving it enough gas to keep the clutch ingauged, usually I like to drive close as it passes by...ouch, that vibration each time.
The good news, the pinion and spur decided to get along and spin freely after just that short run.
The bad news... you need to watch your hand when your holding the pull start! One start I pulled it and it popped but yanked the cord, my grip was good and knuckles close to the head, so I got a good wack!
The worst news...throttle servo died! Suddenly seemed like it was responding slowly, even sticky on throttle, let it stop instantly and walked up to it and there was no movement, carried back to my 4 wheeler, tested it, perfect??? Did open brake repeatedly a dozen or more times no problem, put it back on the ground restarted and as soon as it went 5 feet it was sluggish again, now it's still lifeless but the steering is perfect. Letting it cool down before taking the body off to check if it just unplugged from receiver.
Instead of the tiny stock tires I put on 8s backflips from my outcast.
This rig is making me think up new names to describe it, like diabolical, or the devil in rc form. I was just burping the throttle on its very rich setting and the front wheels where lifting off!
I don't know if I'll be able to enjoy any other rc again now! Must put big block in everything!!!

Haha. You got the Taylor bite. Yes the servos suck Too. It sure is a thing of beauty. Slobbering rich it’ll whip a zenoah of any Mod level.

It’s a power house!

Have you tried the new arms? They fixed the issue with the arms supposedly so the new plastic ones should hold up better now. Still may not be enough but any improvement from the old arms would be a good thing haha

I'm going to test the plastic ones till they fail, heard the same bad things about the vekta plastic, I have used mine and rammed a tree with one front wheel so hard it jumped into the air and did about 270° flashing in air, no damage! Then I've been hooked on thunder rc jumping and flipping his vekta e and vesla... seen him give them hits and survive, he pops the shocks off the vesla once and a while. The vekta came with the stops for that and I added them to my vesla. Time will tell, but I don't do crazy jumps like some do

Thunder rc on y.t has a taylor 46 on her, and she is crazy fast! I love the shocks on that rig, beautiful car bro, enjoy❤

Thanks, will do! I'm addicted to his videos with the kraken models taking his jumps and rolls, I was sure he had a 50gt in his vesla once, but his latest is with a 46, and ya, flops it around like a rag doll. So a 50 must be better!
Just got back in from a quick lhs run and lunch with an old friend for my birthday.
I put power hd 65kg in my vekta, 2 for steering 1 carb/brake, burned one but it was my fault for playing with the end points in the field, so for the price and availability local I'll try these in the vesla, 65kg for carb/brake, 80kg for steering, also the rear end flies up on bumps with the stock 15 w just like the vekta, so I'll try some 25w to match the extra lifting power of the hd springs

Well that was a bit more work than it should have been! Turns out that 80kg servo is smaller to fit the outcast and kraton 8s and such. Seeing I have those anyways, I started to think to keep it put the good 100kg left in my primal mega truck. Well I don't trust it enough and the 80kg is a full metal case so I drempt up an idea and with all the bits of metal and screws I have laying around I was able to make a steel extender and aluminum clamps for the job. That's where the extra work came in, with just tin snips vise grips, a vise, hack saw and hand drill getting the holes straight and the angles square turned out to be impossible! Determination and hard work made it happen and it actually functions Excellent, before I reset the end points pulling full brake was flexing the chassis! Not a mm of movement of the servos, the stock rubber mounted wood screws where letting the servos move around and one of the steering servo screws was missing already. Just the shock oil left to change but after rain all day they're calling for rain again tomorrow and temps are going to start dropping

I wonder if vesla shocks can fit hpi baja rig..and also is there any wheelie bar out there for vesla? That 50 gt power house is like a viagra..keeps the front up🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think there's a thread about the shocks, they are massive so there may be fitment issues, but I think it is possible. Vesla shocks are 4 the same and the vekta have 2 different sizes. So far I haven't seen a wheely bar, but I have seen the vesla keeping it up! Lol

Wheels bar from any
Hpi baja 5 will fit. I have the bebop one on mine. See if you can find m build thread it’s in there.

Thunder's vesla front wheels are 60% of the time in the air...
